CORNERSTONE AWARD
WINNER
What started off as a pilot program to enhance services in the
Greensboro Community Resource Center soon turned into a full
enterprise with Guildford Technical Community College. Courses such
as Employability Skills and Money Smart see full classes of
graduating participants every quarter.

Completion by Design
Grant - awarded in 2011 by the Gates
Foundation, this grant funds a five-year community college reform
effort designed to help low-income young adults finish
postsecondary credentials more quickly and with greater rates of
success. GTC is the designated managing partner and leads a state
cadre to work together to design and implement a model pathway to
completion using proven and promising practices.

Leah Meyer Austin Institutional Leadership
Award - received on February 2, 2010 at the
annual Achieving the Dream Strategy Institute for the college's
initiative through a data-driven program to help community college
students succeed by focusing on retention through tutoring. GTCC
was the second college to win this award and receive a $25,000
stipend from the Lumina Foundation for Education.

Leader College Status -
In 2010, GTCC was recognized as one of the twenty-one community
colleges in the nation designated as a Leader College for its
commitment and progress I the Achieving the Dream principles.

| Developmental Education Initiative
Grant - awarded in 2009 by the Gates
Foundation, this grant enabled GTCC to expand academic support
services for students and substantially improve the educational
experience available to our development student...This grant
enabled the college to move from an equality model to an equity
model in which students are more carefully and individually
integrated into academic processes by creating systems based on a
case management model. |
