NEW
Medication Administration Aide

GTCC is now offering a Medication Administration Aide course for Certified Nurse Aides (CNAs) who have an active listing on the nurse aide registry.  This course provides a wonderful opportunity for career enhancement to nurse aides who are interested in working in skilled nursing facilities as a medication aide.

This course is designed to meet training requirements for the North Carolina Board of Nursing Medication Aide Certification. The training prepares Nurse Aides to administer medications to long term care residents.  Course topics include scope of duties; legal and ethical responsibilities; administration of medications by various routes; infection control; and documentation including commonly used abbreviations.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive a certificate and are then eligible to take the state competency exam administered under NC Division of Health Services Regulation.

The Medication Aide employed in a long term care/skilled facility must also be listed on the Nurse Aide 1 Registry.  Therefore a requirement for course enrollment is that the student is an NA 1 with active listing on the North Carolina Nurse Aide 1 registry; and must have at least 1 year experience working in a nursing home setting.

**Medication aides who pass medications in long term/skilled nursing facilities should not be confused with medication aides who pass medications in adult care settings such as assisted living or group homes.
