STEP 4. ADVISING/REGISTRATION

soar

GTCC offers Student Orientation Advising and Registration (SOAR) sessions during the fall and spring semesters. (*No SOAR sessions are held for the summer term.) SOAR sessions allow new students the chance to be advised and registered early, for the best choice of classes, and to avoid long registration lines at "Open Registration". SOAR Advising and registration is conducted by faculty from your program major.

Students should only sign up for one session. It is important that you do not miss your session time. Sessions fill up quickly and you may not be able to get into another session. If you miss your SOAR session and are unable to reschedule, you will have to register at "Open Registration".  Students attending SOAR will be advised by faculty from their program major.

If you have taken courses at other educational institutions, please bring a student copy of your transcript to the SOAR session to expedite the advising and registration process.

  • Summer students attend "Open Registration for advising and registration."

STEP 5. REGISTRATION

New fall and spring applicants will attend SOAR (Student Orientation Advising and Registration) sessions where faculty advisors will assist with advising and registration. (Check GTCC Homepage for SOAR session details.) Students not attending a SOAR session will register during open registration.

(SOAR Sessions are only held in the Fall and Spring semesters, no sessions are scheduled for the Summer Term.)

After a student's first semester, registration may be conducted by WebAdvisor (on-line registration).

STEP 6. CHECK FOR FINANCIAL AID AWARD

If you applied for FINANCIAL AID and your Financial Aid file is complete your awarded amount will be reflected on WebAdvisor. This is the amount you will have available to apply towards your tuition, fees, books, and supplies. Keep in mind that the amount shown is based on full-time enrollment (12 or more credit hours). If you are enrolled less than full-time, your aid will be prorated accordingly.

If your award amount does not show, then you should check with Enrollment Services, located on the 2nd floor of the Medlin Campus Center, Jamestown Campus.

WebAdvisor is the best source for getting information of financial aid awards.

REMINDER: Students who have been awarded financial aid, that covers tuition, will not be dropped for non-payment on the payment due date.

STEP 7. PAY BILL

Payments may be made online by WebAdvisor, in person at the Cashier's Office, 2nd Floor, Medlin Campus Center, Jamestown Campus, or in person at High Point Campus Cashier Window, front lobby, H1 building or at the Greensboro Campus Bookstore.

You can avoid long payment lines by using the payment option in WebAdvisor. (New students attending SOAR should have access to WebAdvisor).

GTCC accepts cash, checks, money orders, Discover, American Express, MasterCard*, and Visa*. If paying by check, the account holder's name, address, and account number must be pre-printed on the check. If paying in person, you must present the actual credit card to the cashier.

*To make a payment on-line with Visa or MasterCard, please use WebAdvisor.

STEP 8. BUY BOOKS. GO TO CLASS.

If you are using Financial Aid to purchase your books see Step 2 (INVESTIGATE FINANCIAL AID). The bookstore will have specific dates for Financial Aid purchase of books. If you are not a Financial Aid recipient you may purchase your books at any time. Click on the link below for bookstore hours and detailed information.

You will need a picture ID for service in the Bookstore and your class schedule (printed from any computer) to locate the books you will need. Books are set up alphabetically, by the course codes. Your course code, class location, days, and times are listed on your pink registration/billing statement.
