The purpose of the Student Life Office is to enhance student learning by providing leadership development opportunities, volunteer experiences, and membership in student clubs.
The Student Life Office houses the Student Government Association, Clubs and Organizations, and the Gameroom. There are three staff members and SGA Officers in the area to assist you with student issues, needs, programs and services.
There are several ways for you to become involved in student life at GTCC. Doing this is easy...Stop by the Student Life Office/SGA and speak to a staff member or student about what your extra-curricular interest are. We have clubs that are curriculum based as well as interest specific clubs such as the Ski Club, International Students Association and Ambassadors for Christ. Whatever your interest may be, GTCC has a place for you. If you have an interest in a certain area and want to start your own club, you'll need to stop by the Student Life Office to find out the policies and procedures for that process.
The heart of the Jamestown campus, Medlin provides facilities for assembly, theatre, club meetings, lounging and recreation.
The following activities are housed in the Medlin Campus Center:
First Level The Student ID Office
Ground Level The SGA Offices are open when Officers and Representatives are available. Also in the Student Government office is the GTCC Food Pantry, which is open to any student, staff or faculty member in need of food. All you need to do is show your ID card.
Ground Level The Club of the Year office is located here as well.
First Level In addition to textbooks, the bookstore sells snacks, software, and other supplies students may need.

Student Government Association
The purpose of SGA is to promote the college by representing the student body's interests, needs and concerns, and by keeping students informed about issues that affect them. It also has the responsibility to program events, such as comedians, novelty activities, and lecturers for the campus community to enjoy. SGA is funded through your student activity fees, so become involved to help determine how your money is spent. The Executive Officers of SGA consists of the following four positions: the SGA President; Vice-President for Clubs; Vice-President for Special Events; and Secretary. The Officers are responsible for the day-to-day operations of the SGA.
The board is comprised of nine representatives and the executive officers, who are chosen by application in September. Stop by the SGA Office for more information or to apply. Community Service, Food Pantry Rep, Promotions, Multi-Cultural Rep, Evening Student Rep, Travel Rep, Greensboro Campus Rep, High Point Campus Rep and Aviation Campus Rep are the possible positions to apply within SGA.
Institutional Committees represent an important part of the student voice at the school. The committee's students meet with representatives of the faculty and staff to address campus issues and services. The different committees making up the Institutional Committees are: Curriculum; Diversity; Enrollment Management; Disciplinary Review; Grievance Advisory; and Traffic Appeals. SGA also purchases video and audiotapes which can be checked out through the LRC for students and employees to take home for 48 hours. Stop by the LRC Circulation Desk for a list of current tapes.

Each fall semester the Student Life Office selects approximately 24 campus leaders for a local weekend leadership retreat. The retreat provides educational, recreational and social activities for these students. The purpose of the retreat is to prepare club officers, member of SGA and other campus leaders with the opportunity to learn leadership skills and to process leadership experiences.
Interested students are asked to apply for participation in the Student Life Office on the first floor of Medlin Campus Center by the end of September.
What are the housing options at GTCC?
GTCC does not have on-campus housing. You may contact the Student Life Office for your available options. We keep an updated list of people wishing to rent a room or apartment in their home. We also have a list of students wishing to find a roommate. We will take your name and number and add you to our list if you are interested. You may go online at www.apartmentbluebook.com to give you an idea of the apartments available in Greensboro, High Point, and Winston-Salem.
All students are required to have a student ID at GTCC. You may obtain a student ID from the ID office located in the Student Life Office, Level 1, Medlin Campus Center. Office hours are Monday - Thursday 8:00 am - 6:00 pm and Fridays 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Summer hours are 8:00 am - 6:00 pm Monday - Thursday and 8:00 am- 1:00 pm Fridays. Please contact the Greensboro and High Point Campuses for their hours. To obtain a new student ID, you must present two forms of identification, one which must be a state or federally issued photo ID.
